Average Insurance Costs
We have done research and surveyed many competitive insurance companies to chart and compare the average insurance costs. The data includes both car and house insurance listed by state across the United States.
This is a follow up from our average auto insurance rates post with last years prices compared.
Natural disasters (do they still call them acts of God?) are increasing such as Hurricane Katrina, and the BP oil spill, which technically was not a natural disaster, it was preventable, but such occurrences raise consumers premiums regardless.
We now have updated the quotes to include the most recent rates so you can compare and make the best decision before you sign up online, or switch insurer before you make a costly claim.
Using our comparison information you can be sure you have the cheapest auto insurance.

This assumes that all insured vehicles carry liability coverage but do not necessarily carry the physical damage coverages--collision and/or comprehensive. (2) The District of Columbia is entirely urban and New Jersey is predominately urban. Their results cannot be directly compared with states with large rural areas. (3) Data incorporates Safe Driver Plan credits and surcharges. (4) Historically, New Jersey insurers have paid 2 to 4 times the national average in dividends to policyholders, and at times as high as 6 times the national average, which reduces New Jersey's average expenditure. (5) Due to the exclusion of county mutuals, which had 45 percent of the market in 2004, Texas results are not comparable with results from other states.

As a sidenote, natural disasters in one state can effect the insurance premiums in all other states. If you’ve got the time compare insurance cost data for each state, and see the patterns in similar areas. Since Hurricane Katrina, insurance costs are higher on average for rates of all states, see a related article below
